To help you deal with your car lockout you can follow these steps.

1. Always use your key fob,  If you have a new model car or truck. It's advisable to never use the actual car-lock on your driver's side to lock all the doors. Getting into the habit of using your key-fob whenever you walk away from your car will prevent car lockout.

2. Did you know that your key fob has a battery that can run out of power? You may have noticed that sometimes your key fob doesn't work as well as it used to, or not from longer distances. When this starts to happen, replace your battery before it runs out of power.

3. For those of you who have an older car with no key fob, you must get into the habit of only locking your car after you are outside the vehicle. Complete everything you need to do in the driver's seat, as well as pocketing your key and then get out of the car and lock it.  Once again, though it can be convenient to lock the door from inside the driver's door, don't do it! Resist, take the extra 30 seconds to lock your car from the outside and it will save you an hour of inconvenience while you work out "how" to get your keys out of the car.

4. We recommend that you always keep a spare key in your purse or wallet. It i so easy to misplace your main car key if you have a very busy life and do not have a permanent, or consistent "home" for you car key.

5. We suggest you give a spare key to a spouse, trusted friend, or family member. They can come and help you if you lock your key in the car.

6. When you have no other choice, keep the number of a trusted, skilled locksmith in your wallet or purse. If you do this, having the number of a skilled locksmith will guarantee that you can get back into  your vehicle within a decent time frame. 7. Always take a few extra seconds to check everything while you are leaving any location, BEFORE you lock your car door, even if you're in a hurry. Memorize a mental checklist; "keys, wallet, glasses, etc." Additionally, we always tell people to give themselves time in their lives to slow down and take a breath before racing off to the next destination. In this way, you will always have your key with you, plus your mind will be clearer- which keeps you safer in all situations.
